Recently, the 2024 Academic Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society for Microbiology was held in Fuzhou. The event was sponsored by the Chinese Society for Microbiology and the Fujian Society of Biomedical Engineering, and co-hosted by Fujian Normal University and Fujian Medical University.
Academician Xu Jianguo, President of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, and Tu Rong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Fujian Normal University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The ceremony was hosted by Professor Ding Jiabo, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Microbiology.
Professor Li Hong, Vice President of Fujian Medical University, and Weng Cheng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Fujian Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, along with over 1,000 experts and scholars, including key personnel and faculty representatives from more than 370 institutions across the country and the School of Life Sciences at Fujian Normal University, attended the conference.
The conference focused on the theme of “Microbial Diversity and Sustainable Development.” Professor Xie Bifeng from the School of Life Sciences at Fujian Normal University was invited as a guest of honor. He presented a commendation report titled “Writing Research Papers on the Land of the Motherland - The Story of Professor Wu Songgang.”
During the keynote speech session, Cheng Gong, a tenured professor and party secretary of the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Tsinghua University, and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; Zhou Peng, a researcher at Guangzhou Laboratory and also a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; Wang Jun, the leader of the Pathogen and Immunology Laboratory at the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and head of a collaborative research group at the Max Planck Gesellschaft in Germany; and Tang Hongzhi, a tenured professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered speeches titled “Infection and Transmission of Mosquito-borne Viruses,” “Evolution, Common Characteristics, and Risk Studies of Sarbecovirus,” “Empowering Microbiome Function and Translational Research with Deep Learning,” and “Applications of Synthetic Biology in Environmental Remediation,” respectively. They shared the latest research progress in the fields of viruses, fungi, bacteria, and other related areas.
The conference also featured four sub-venue themes: Microbial Resources and Microbiomics, Pathogenic Microorganisms and Health, Environmental Microorganisms and Environmental Biotechnology, as well as Microbial Physiology, Metabolism, and Synthetic Biology. Additionally, there were sub-venues dedicated to Zoonotic Diseases and Health, a special session for Fujian Medical University, and the mLife Young Scholar Forum. In total, 36 experts delivered keynote speeches, and 115 scholars presented at the sub-venues. The conference also awarded certificates of honor to 22 excellent presenters and 5 outstanding poster presenters. Furthermore, 290 excellent reports, posters, and paper abstracts were included in the conference's “Abstract Collection.”
